Purim Activities

Purim is the most joyful celebration in the Jewish calendar. As a result, many fun activities are scheduled for the month of Purim every year. Jews everywhere can expect pranks and practical jokes from everyone they know. It's good policy to expect the unexpected. Purim is also a time for forgiving and forgetting wrongs that have been done during the year. Overlooking the shortcomings of others is an essential part of creating a successful community, and the playful atmosphere of Purim makes it particularly easy.

Planning Purim activities can be almost as much fun as the activities themselves. Many schools and institutions set up special education and activity projects especially for Purim. Although many Purim activities are generally directed at children, adults love taking part and seem to enjoy themselves just as much as the children do.

Getting into the Spirit of Purim

Many Jewish communities like to organize pageants and carnivals at this special time. Activities that are lighthearted and fun are strongly encouraged. Many children love to put on productions of the Purim story. The characters lend themselves especially to a fun interpretation of this important time.

However, the serious fun during Purim is largely centered around food. In addition to a formal Purim meal celebrated by families and communities, there are always many sweet treats in circulation too. Gifts of sweets and other kosher foods abound. Everyone can safely send gifts of food to anyone and everyone they know during Purim, and many online kosher food stores will take care of the details of sending excellent food gifts to your friends and loved ones for you.
