Self Employment Opportunities

If you are looking for self employment opportunities, one popular option is to go into the concession business. As with many self employment opportunities, this will allow you to determine how much you want to work. You may just want to work at special events such as fairs and carnivals to pull in some additional income, or set up a permanent operation as your sole source of income.

While in theory you can set up any self employment operation that you would like, you should carefully consider any constraints that might exist. For example, if snow cones and frozen desserts are the staple of your business, it may not be profitable to operate during the winter months. If you want to work more than just special events, you might pursue a short term lease for property, similar to those any other seasonal operations will use.

Expanding Your Offerings

If you have already started your own concession business or small business, you might consider expanding your offerings. For example, if you are already in the concession business and want to diversify your products, you might consider adding desserts or other snacks to your menu. Assuming that you have chosen a new product wisely, you will be able to recoup your initial investment in a short period of time.

The pros and cons of all self employment opportunities should be considered carefully. While they provide increased freedom and flexibility, they also impose a greater financial risk upon you. Additionally, you will need to be apprised of all the laws that might govern business, such as procuring permits, zoning restrictions and taxes. You may decide that it's more trouble than it's worth to run a part time small business, but that might provide the impetus you need to become your own boss full time.
