Oolong tea has been used in traditional medicine in various parts of the world for countless generations. Its medicinal properties are highly regarded in many Asian cultures, and its reputation as a treatment for a wide variety of ailments is legendary. There are many uses of oolong tea, and several varieties as well.

Medicinal Properties of Oolong Tea

As a medicine, oolong tea has long been used to treat cases of indigestion, as it neutralizes acid and restores balance to the body. Apothecaries have long prescribed it, and families have used it at home to counteract upset stomachs. It is one of the best homeopathic treatments for indigestion available.

A second medicinal use for oolong tea is as a means to lower cholesterol. There are two types of cholesterol, the so called "good" cholesterol and the "bad" cholesterol. You may have heard your doctor refer to them as LDL and HDL. Oolong tea is shown to reduce the levels of bad cholesterol in the body.

Not only are oolong teas good for you, they taste great as well. It is partially fermented for greater flavor, it has a wonderful smell that will liven up any room, and its taste stays with you longer than other teas. Oolong tea is available in many different varieties, including Tung Ting, Wuyi Rock, and Anxi Benshan. I know of at least a dozen types, and there could very well be more out there waiting to be tasted and enjoyed.
