For a truly authentic and genuine tea drinking experience, there is no better teapot than a Yixing teapot. Yixing clay teapots are regarded as the perfect teapot in China, the birthplace of tea. Yixing clay has been the chosen substance to make tea brewing and drinking vessels since the discovery of tea thousands of years ago.

Beautiful and Versatile Yixing Clay Teapots

Yixing is a beautiful purple clay that comes from China. What is incredible about this clay is that the more it is used, the better it looks. Each time a Yixing clay pot is used, the colors become more vivid and rich. Unlike other substances that deteriorate with age, Yixing clay becomes more and more attractive as time goes by.

Not only do Yixing clay pots look better the longer they are used, but they actually brew better tea the older they get. This is because the natural porosity of clay traps some of the flavor from each pot that is brewed. The pot itself retains flavor, so each time a new batch is brewed, it progressively becomes stronger and richer. This does not happen with glazed and coated teapots.

Yixing clay is ideal for making tea pots due to the non-conductive properties of clay. Heat is not conducted from the body of the pot to the handle. On other pots, the handle needs to be of a different material than the pot to keep it from burning people's hands. Not so with Yixing clay, so the body and handle can be one piece. This makes for a very attractive and elegant teapot.
