Strategy board games are great fun and exceptionally challenging. It's a wonderful way to spend a lot of time with a good friend. Strategy games are very productive for kids to play too. It teaches them how to plan things out, and often teaches world history or geography.

Settling Strategy Board Games

One of the most popular strategy board games is the award winning Settlers of Catan. In it, you play an immigrant on the new island of Catan. You must settle it by building roads and villages. It's an effective way for young people to learn how to get along and how fledgling countries are established.

Risk is a classic strategy game. In Risk, players go head to head conquering countries until they rule the world. While this may sound a little harsh, it's a great way for young people to practice higher level thinking skills. The strategizing is also a lot of fun.

Valuable Skills

Spy Alley has secret agents from all over the world following you around the board. You also vie for world domination. In Catch 22 you try to land on jackpots scattered around the board while your opponents try to block you. Like with most worthwhile strategy games, to learn is simple but to win requires players to think in ways that are creative and thorough. These are always good skills for children to learn.
