Coastal Cruising

Coastal cruising takes basic sailing skills to the next level. Still an introductory course, you learn how to cruise in moderate conditions. This is the ideal arena in which to gain more confidence with safety equipment, weather forecasts, and crew duties.

Learning in "steps" keeps budding sailors from feeling overwhelmed. Sailing is a highly technical sport, involving charts, mainsail and jib skills, tiller "feel," and intuition. Gradually building one's water wisdom on a platform of solid sailing basics is the best and quickest way to enjoy the sport.

Coastal Cruising Develops Sailing Skills

There are some great American Sailing Association schools that teach sailing skills in a fun and friendly manner. No matter what your skill level, you can quickly improve, given the proper instruction. From basic tiller skills to advanced chart interpretation, a good school will be an invaluable resource for anyone interested in sharing in the joy offered by the ocean!

There is no end to the learning that a sailor can do; after all, you are dealing with the elements. There is no "finished," when a person knows how to effectively deal with everything that ocean, weather, and wind can throw at them. However, the infinite opportunity for developing new skills is one of the joys of sailing, and coastal cruising is a favorite of many.
