New England Sailing

New England sailing is not to be treated as a mere hobby, as sailing can be in other parts of the world. New England has a proud seafaring tradition, and many New Englanders are as comfortable on the waves as they are on land. However, one needn't have been born into this tradition to learn the skills; there are wonderful sailing schools that can quickly get you up to speed.

The best sailing schools are certified by the American Sailing Association. They will offer courses for every level of sailing ability, from absolute beginner to globe-trotter. Whatever you need brushing up on or a firm grounding in can be taught effectively, ideally by friendly instructors.

New England Sailing Offers a Lot of Joy

One of the joys of New England sailing is the beauty of the Rhode Island Sound. The bays, inlets, and shore towns all combine to create a world unto itself. This is a great place to sail, for beginners and advanced sailors alike.

If you feel comfortable sailing in New England waters, you can then take your skills to points farther south. The Bahamas are ideal sailing destinations, as the mild weather and warm water lend themselves to slow coastal cruises with plenty of time for fishing, snorkeling and swimming. Once you have sailing basics under your belt, you can go anywhere in the world and enjoy the freedom and autonomy of crewing a keelboat or catamaran.
