Sailing Instructors

Sailing is a sport of precision, of attention and focus, and of close calls and inclement weather. For these reasons, sailing instructors should be experienced and patient, friendly, and totally committed to sharing the sport with everyone interested. An instructor lacking in one of these fundamentals will compromise the student's ability to be safe and successful out on the "Big Blue."

It used to be that there was no way to "rate" schools and sailing instructors. The student simply had to take his or her chances that they were patronizing a quality outfit. Now, however, everyone interested in sailing has the American Sailing Association on their side, making the process infinitely easier and more satisfying.

Not All Sailing Instructors Are Alike

The ASA certifies only a small percentage of sailing schools. They have rigorous requirements since they want sailing to grow in safety and popularity. An ASA-certified school has been scrutinized by this body, and found replete with skill and proper focus.

If you are just starting out on your sailing adventure, it can be scary! The right sailing instructors know how to make students comfortable on deck and around high waves. If you are determined to conquer the sport, you will certainly be able to find top schools and excellent sailing instructors that can help.
