Computer Game Camps

Of all the computer camps out there, computer game camps are probably the most popular. Video games have been a part of American culture for decades now. However, those who grew up playing Pac Man might be shocked by the advances that have been made over the past 20 years. The scope of computer games has begun to rival and, in some cases, even surpass that of blockbuster movies.

The rise of computer games has made the job of game designer one of the most sought after in America. Computer game camps will allow campers to really delve into the world of game design. They will learn about design elements by comparing features of each game genre, and they will also learn to work with authoring software. Storytelling elements of design such as storyboarding and character development will usually be covered, as well. This will allow kids to focus on RPG (role playing games) and first person games. At the end of most camps, a child will have designed a game of his own.

Game Playing Camps

There are camps that focus far more on gaming than on game design. These programs create an environment where kids can come and play the latest (camp approved) games. Gaming tournaments are set up and often prizes are put on the line. These programs serve as a great way for kids to meet others from around the country that share their love of gaming.

Many parents get concerned with the idea of a camp that simply puts kids in front of a computer all day. The best gaming camps also feature a number of outdoor and social activities. Like other summer camps, they create opportunities for children to participate in a number of different pursuits each day.
