Technology CampsWritten by Michael Federico There are a number of camps designed for kids who want to learn as much as they possibly can about computers. While many children seem to have a preternatural ability to fix whatever computer problem their parents might encounter, they do not generally have an outlet at school to enhance their already expert skills. They learn about complex computer applications on their own or from friends. Technology camps are rapidly changing that, though. Even highly skilled children and teens can come to camp and work with materials and technology that they have not had access to before. Most camps do not focus on basic computer programs and functions. They assume that a camper is far more interested in learning aspects of web design or game modding than performing a mail merge on Word. This gives kids time to actually take the information they glean from courses and put it to use in a lab setting. Finding the Right Technology CampThere are a number of highly rated technology camps available for kids. However, there are a few things that most parents should look for before they choose which one to send their children to. It is important that there are enough counselors to handle the amount of campers. If there are not, the campers will simply not get the chance to have all of their questions answered, and ultimately they won't learn as much. A parent should make sure that a camp offers the programs that his or her child is interesting in taking. Many kids really want to go to camp to learn game design. Not every camp, though, features design classes. Most camps make it very easy for parents to view all of the courses that are offered.
