Online Casino Roulette

Roulette is one of the most popular casino games of all time. It has been played and enjoyed by enthusiasts and professional gamblers alike since at least 1765. Today's internet version of roulette is only the most recent development in the long, amazing evolution of an amazing and exciting game.

Roulette, as many people know, is a French word that means "little wheel". When I was researching an article on the history of Roulette a while back, I ran into some really amazing stories about its origins. One legend was that the Roulette wheel was actually derived from an early scientist's attempt at creating a perpetual motion device. His attempt failed (darn those pesky laws of physics), but the game caught on.

Another interesting legend I turned up about the origins of the game said that the wheel's inventor actually sold his soul to Satan for it. That one's pretty tough to prove, but an interesting coincidence (or is it?) is that if you add up all the numbers on the Roulette wheel, the total is 666. I'm not sure if that makes me more prone to bet on red or black.

Roulette Online

However Roulette started, it certainly has become a phenomenon across continents and with the advent of the Internet, it knows no boundaries. You can find Roulette tables in Las Vegas, Monte Carlo, and on about a million websites in cyber space. There is something universal in the appeal of this game.

If you're just starting to get hooked on Roulette online, there are a few things to consider. First, remember that Roulette started in France and most things do not survive a trans-Atlantic journey without some change. This means that today there is European Roulette and American Roulette. They are virtually identical except that American wheels have one extra space, a double zero, and thus the odds of winning on a European wheel are slightly better.

Modern online virtual wheels come in both varieties. Virtual Roulette wheels are programs that utilize random number generating technology to govern the motions of the wheel. This gives the wheel the randomness it needs so that outcomes are difficult, some say impossible, to predict.

Online Roulette Betting

When you're betting online, most experts advise that unless you have a good system in place, you should limit your bets to a few spins and wager more per spin. This advise is based on the idea that statistically, the longer you play, the higher the odds are that you will lose money.

Taking advantage of short term gains and walking away while you're ahead are good advice, but it doesn't make for much fun. If you want to play longer and win more money, you'll need to find a Roulette system that can help you become a more sophisticated player. Disregard any of the statistically based Roulette systems, they've all been proven not to work and you'll just be wasting your money. Some newer systems, like those based on physics or other factors, seem to work much better and you don't even need to start out with a lot of money to win.
