Real Poker Chips

What are real poker chips? Many poker aficionados have their own idea of what constitutes a real poker chip. Some avid players believe that the 11.5 gram poker chips are the real poker chips while others are partial to the 13 gram poker chips. Some believe that clay poker chips are the only real poker chips on the market, and still others contend that a poker chip is a poker chip regardless of its weight and make-up.

Personally, I don't really care about this debate. Give me a couple of card players, a good deck of cards, a solid poker table, and some respectable poker chips, and I'll agree with anyone on anything. Give me a poker game to play and I'm as happy as a six-year-old kid in a candy store.

All Poker Chips Are Real Poker Chips

11.5 gram poker chips are considered by many to be real poker chips because this is the most popular weight on the market. Most casinos use 11.5 gram chips. I don't have a strong point of view when it comes to poker chips, but I personally believe that clay poker chips are as real as they come. This is what was used back in the wild wild west days.

Your poker chips do reflect your perception of the game. If you have cheap plastic chips, you probably have very little respect for the game and could care less if you played more than once a year. If you have well-preserved clay chips, however, that indicates you are a respectable card player. And remember, psychological intimidation is the most important part if you want to win at poker.
