Stamp Values

For those people who spend a good amount of time collecting stamps, the question of stamp values pops up every now and again. It can be tricky discerning the value of one stamp over another, especially when two stamps look practically identical. If you are new to stamp collecting, you are probably finding it even more challenging to determine stamp prices than someone who has been at it for many years.

However, don't despair if you get confused from time to time. If you have some stamps in your collection that you absolutely have no idea what their value is, you have some options for finding the answers. First, you may want to consult with the Scott Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue, which is like the blue book for automobiles. You can look up identification numbers to get the going rate for a specific stamp.

Figuring Out Stamp Values

If you would rather speak to an expert, you could always contact some reputable stamp dealers for some clarification. The easiest way to do this is via the Web, as many professional dealers have interactive websites that allow people to post messages and questions on their forums. You can also get contact information for many dealers on the Web and call them yourself if you would prefer to get your question answered in that manner.

Stamp values are not always what you think they would be. Older stamps that are in mint condition may fetch more money than older stamps that are worn and tattered. This is not always the case, though, which is why it can be confusing for the stamp collector to determine value. With just a little bit of research on your part, you should be able to determine the value of the stamp in question.
