With the fast-paced Super Breakout and other similar games, Atari was the king of "breakout-style" games in the early days of arcade entertainment. Their multi-player hit Warlords was one of the breakthroughs in the genre, pitting up to four players against each other in a breakout battle to the death. Such head-to-head style that included so many players was something of a novelty when Warlords was released in 1980.

In Warlords, you must defend your castle against opposing players' fireballs. You do this by putting up your shield, which opponents will try to break through. At the same time, you must catapult your own fireballs into your opponents' castles, attempting to demolish them to become the last player standing.

Downloading Warlords

Fans of the original Warlords (and even those people who are interested in playing it for the first time) can easily play it on their own home computer systems. With the aid of MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) software, the original Warlords ROM can be loaded into your machine's memory and played directly on your computer. MAME software essentially serves as a host, translating the original code so that your machine can understand it.

On the original gaming system, Warlords used a series of paddles for each player to control his or her castle. When playing the ROM on your computer, you can use the keyboard and mouse to control the action. If you are used to the original game-play, this can take a bit of adjustment, but after a while, you will be playing with ease.
