Bleeding Gums RemediesWritten by Christa Gatewood Gum disease is a problem that affects as many as 80 percent of Americans, in one form or another. There are many symptoms that indicate gum disease, but perhaps the most obvious is bleeding gums. When gums are swollen, red, and/or tender, they are most vulnerable to bleeding. These gums have some form of gum disease and need to be treated. Treatment for Bleeding GumsIn order to cure the symptom, you have to treat the disease. The only way to stop gums from bleeding is to treat the cause--gum disease. Practicing superior oral care is the best way to treat gum disease. This includes but is not limited to brushing and flossing regularly. With gum disease, brushing and flossing can be traumatic to sensitive gums. Both are necessary, however, in order to improve the overall health of the gums. The gums may continue to bleed at first and may even be uncomfortable for a while, but eventually they will improve. When gums become healthier, the bleeding and discomfort will subside. In the meantime, you may want to use a topical anesthetic to ease the discomfort sore gums can bring. Another method is to rinse with a warm water and salt solution. The warm water is soothing to sore gums and the salt helps promote healing. This solution may even help to promote healthy gums. For those with very sensitive teeth or gums, you may want to consider using special toothpaste for sensitive teeth. When the mouth becomes less sensitive you can return to your regular toothpaste.
