Natural Cures For Allergies

Allergies are, essentially, a mistake. You have an allergic reaction to something when your body mistakes it for an infection, and fires up the immune system to fight it off. Thus, you feel sick even though you aren't--which can be quite unpleasant. Among the most common allergies are those in reaction to pollen, when your body identifies plant pollen as a pathogen (despite the fact that pollen cannot infect your body).

Fighting Your Allergies

There are a number of natural cures for allergies, since your body isn't actually sick. The most common is to eat foods that contain local honey. Since you're getting your allergies from the plants in your area, and bees collect pollen and nectar from the same parts of the plant that trigger allergies, local pollen will have the same pollen that makes you sneeze.

This may seem illogical, but taking small amounts of local pollen keeps you from reacting to larger amounts. Your body may identify the pollen as a pathogen, but it then builds up antibodies to the local pollen. This way, when the flowers bloom and the air is full of pollen, you are well-prepared to fight your "infection."

Other natural remedies for allergies focus on bolstering the immune system. In peak shape, your immune system can fight off a small infection with few symptoms--so a strong immune system will reduce allergies. Taking vitamin C, zinc, and echinacea are good ways of keeping your immune system in top form, which is always a good idea, allergies or not.
