When a baby is fussy, it can make a parent feel frustrated, useless, and guilty. These are all natural emotions, but it is important to be aware that some babies cry more than others and that the parent is not to blame. Some babies are colicky; some are just restless. One way to get the upper hand on a baby that seems endlessly fussy is to have an abundance of tricks in your arsenal.

Tips to Calm Fussy Babies

One of the easiest and most proven methods to calm a fussy baby is to elicit the help of white noise. Experts have shown that white noise resembles the noises heard by babies in the womb and that this sound can have a soothing effect on children. White noise can be made by a vacuum cleaner, a hair dryer, a fan, or even a washing machine. Sound machines can also be purchased for a portable and simple solution.

Another trick that has long been shown to soothe babies is putting the baby in motion. This can be done by walking with the baby in your arms, putting the baby in a swing, or rocking the baby in a chair. In the womb. babies are used to constantly being walked around or moving, so motion is very comforting to a baby.

Ask for suggestions from experienced moms, because it seems that everyone has a remedy for a fussy baby. Some of these include letting the baby look in the mirror, infant massage, and for a small baby, wrapping the baby in a tightly swaddled blanket. The important thing is to try everything at least once until you find something that works. It is in the best interest of everyone involved, parents and child alike, to have a calm and happy baby.
