Colic MedicationsWritten by Amy Hall There really are no prescription colic medications that you can get through your pediatrician. This may astound you that there is no medical treatment available for a condition that affects so many babies every year. However, the causes of colic still remain a mystery, so it can be challenging for medical doctors to prescribe a course of treatment. However, there are some wonderful natural remedies for colic on the market that do seem to help many babies who suffer from this frustrating condition. If you are concerned about using colic medications on your newborn, simply ask your pediatrician for some guidance. Most doctors will approve the use of gripe water or gas drops for colic, as long as your baby has no known allergies to any of the ingredients. Effective Colic MedicationsSome of the ingredients in Colic Calm gripe water include: charcoal, chamomile, fennel, caraway, peppermint, ginger, lemon balm, aloe, vegetable carbon, and glycerin. Each ingredient in Colic Calm is on the FDA's GRAS list, "Generally Recognized As Safe". Gas drops are also available at most grocery stores and drug stores, with the main ingredient being Dimeticone, which breaks up trapped gas. You can try a couple of different colic medications until you find one that seems to provide your child with some relief. Chances are, you will be able to at least decrease some of the symptoms that are causing your newborn to cry. This of course, means that the crying itself will subside, and both you and your baby can get some peace and quiet.
