Fertility centers offer a wide range of options to help you tackle difficulties conceiving a child. There are classic solutions to a low sperm count known to any man who has been through junior high school. But changing from tighty-whities to boxers may not necessarily do the trick. If you're looking into fertility centers, you're ready to get serious.

The first serious route to pregnancy is intrauterine insemination (IUI). IUI is performed by injecting specially "washed" sperm into the uterus directly. The whole process usually takes only a few minutes at most. Essentially, IUI gives sperm a leg up, by saving it the tough swim past the cervix.

Sperm used in IUI should ideally be "fresh"; it shouldn't be more than a half-hour since ejaculation that the process is begun. Washing the sperm can take 30 minutes and it can take two hours, depending upon which process is utilized. Timing is also important for the recipient. IUI works best when it is performed within six hours of ovulation. With these considerations taken into account, IUI's success rate can be as high as 26 percent. IUI is basically painless--no worse than having a pap smear.

Options Offered by Fertility Centers

IUI is only one route to pregnancy. The next step is in vitro fertilization (IVF), in which the woman's eggs are removed and fertilized in a laboratory. IVF is an extremely effective treatment. Finding one of the top fertility centers is an essential first step to getting pregnant and finally having the child you have dreamed of.
