Help Baby SleepWritten by Christa Gatewood All babies are different and have different needs, but as a general rule, the younger the baby, the shorter time he/she will sleep. Babies have to learn to go more and more time without being fed, and until they do, they will wake up in the middle of the night. Most babies, however, will learn to sleep through the night in the first year of life. There are some things parents can do to help encourage a baby to sleep longer through the night. It is important that babies are not stimulated at bedtime as this will only put them in an excited mood. Parents should create a bedtime ritual that a child can count on every night. This ritual should include low energy activities like reading or rocking. Products that Help Babies SleepThere are several products on the market that can help a baby sleep. One of the most popular of these products is the sleep sound machine. Sound machines help soothe a baby to sleep. They produce soft rhythmic noises that help ease a baby into a state of peaceful relaxation. Newborns wake in the middle of the night to be fed. Some babies go immediately back to sleep with a feeding. With some babies it is a challenge to get them back to sleep. A good idea is to turn on the sound machine during the feeding to help the baby stay in a relaxed mood. This will make it easier for the child to fall asleep when feeding time is over.
