Luckily, there are some outstanding natural remedies for colic on the market today that can significantly help control the symptoms of infant colic. Unfortunately, there is no real medical answer as to what the causes of colic are. This can be so frustrating for parents who have spent countless nights walking a screaming newborn up and down the hallway.

In addition, there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to who gets colic and who does not get colic. This condition affects roughly 20% of newborns, and it does not discriminate between boys and girls, nor does birth order seem to play a role in it. Colic is defined as a newborn who cries for at least three or more hours a day, for three or more days every week. Some babies cry only in the evenings, others cry all day and night, which can be extremely difficult to deal with for caregivers.

Natural Remedies for Colic that Help

Once your pediatrician has confirmed that your baby does have colic, you can try a number of natural remedies for colic that will help soothe your crying baby, and your frazzled nerves. Natural supplements such as gripe water, which contains completely natural ingredients, can help break up trapped gas that can cause your baby to suffer from terrible abdominal pains. In addition, you can try to massage your baby's belly, which also helps break up trapped gas, as well as provide your soothing touch.

Many parents have found that swaddling the baby in a blanket tightly helps soothe the crying, as does constant motion. You can put your baby in the car and go for a ride around the block, or you can try the stroller or an infant swing, with some soothing music. The good news is that there are some great natural remedies for colic that you can try. The trick lies in finding the right combination of remedies for your baby.
