If you have just been given the diagnosis of prostate cancer or you have been battling this disease for a while, you may want to take some steps to ensure that you are eating the right foods to keep your energy level and immunity high. Doctors often advise their patients with prostate cancer to avoid red meats, dairy products, and foods high in saturated fats. There seems to be a link between people who have historically eaten a high-fat diet and their increased risks of developing cancer.

The idea is that a high-fat diet can lead to clogged arteries, which in turn can lead to poor circulation. Nutrients in the foods we eat cannot be circulated throughout the body properly if the arteries are restricted from cardiovascular disease and arteriosclerosis. Therefore, a high fat diet can contribute to the development of cancer if the vitamins and minerals known to fight cancer are unable to reach all of the cells in the body.

Lycopene has been touted as one of the best cancer fighting antioxidants, and it is found in tomatoes, watermelon, and guava. Some studies have shown that men who consume 10 servings or more of tomato-based foods per week were 35 percent less likely to get prostate cancer as opposed to men who only consumed 1.5 servings per week. New studies have shown that lycopene may help men with early stage prostate cancer. Men who took lycopene supplements showed signs of their cancer regressing and their PSA levels were lowered.

The Best Prostate Cancer Diet

If you have been diagnosed with prostate cancer, try to eat as many fresh fruits and vegetables as you can, while keeping red meat out of your diet entirely. Try eating fish such as salmon instead of red meat, as the omega fatty acids can be beneficial to your health. It is also recommended that you limit your dairy consumption, which would require you to take an oral supplement in order to get the calcium your body needs. Coral calcium supplements are widely used among prostate cancer patients, and they can be found online and through health food stores.
