Detoxification

Detoxification, or "detox," is the process of thoroughly and methodically removing poisons from the body. It can also connote leaving behind harmful habits such as drugs and alcohol, smoking, or eating unhealthy foods. Detoxing is becoming more and more popular as people become more aware of how environmental factors, as well as their personal habits, can impact on their health.

Even if you exercise, practice healthy eating, drink plenty of water and don't drink or smoke, detoxification is still necessary. These days, we simply don't have control over our environment. Pesticides are sprayed on our produce. Livestock is injected with drugs. Air pollution is growing worse. No matter what we do to prevent it, environmental toxins will inevitably end up in our bodies. Regular internal purification is necessary to prolong life and avoid disease.

Colonic Detoxification

One popular form of detoxification is colonic cleansing. We tend to think of a colon as an isolated organ that has no impact on overall health, but in fact the opposite is true. The colon has been found to directly affect nearly every system in the body. It has a dual role: to deliver nutrients from digested food to the body, and to get rid of waste from the digestive process. When these two processes are inhibited, most often through blockage (constipation), then the colon becomes more like a toxic garbage pail, threatening to poison the body from the inside out.

Colonic cleansing uses natural herbal remedies to gently but effectively scour the inside of the colon. You wouldn't believe what builds up along the walls of this organ over time: between five and ten pounds of impacted fecal matter as hard as wood, not to mention toxic deposits and parasitic worms and amoebas. During detox, all this junk gets pulled off the intestinal wall and pushed out through the stool. Once detox is complete, the result is more than just increased regularity. The effects register throughout the body in higher energy levels, flatter abdomens, better moods, normalized sleeping habits, and disappearance of acne, bad breath, flatulence, headaches, and menstrual cramps.
