Fat StomachsWritten by Rachel Arieff Fat stomachs are warning flags of something other than obesity. If you aren't particularly fat, yet your stomach has ballooned, you may have an internal problem. (I will exclude pregnancy from this discussion, which is another issue entirely!) Tumors can make a stomach bulge out. Other times, a distended colon can make the stomach look fat. In fact, sick colons are quite often the cause of fat stomachs. The normal, healthy human colon weighs about five pounds. However, what happens with the majority of people today is that, due to a diet poor in fiber and raw foods, their colon gets clogged with mucus and compacted fecal material. Doctors say that the average adult walks around with five to ten pounds of this hardened material clogging up the colon. If the colon itself weighs only five pounds, this is a lot of junk to be carrying around. Imagine the extra strain it must put on your digestive system. Other Causes of Fat StomachsOf course all that extra bulk would show up as a bulging stomach. Think that's gross? Sorry, but it gets worse. Another cause of fat stomachs is parasite infestation. Statistics differ depending on who you're talking to, but it is said that anywhere from 50 percent to 85 percent of Americans harbor parasitic roundworms, flatworms, or blood flukes in their systems. How do they get there? Parasites most commonly enter the body orally, through undercooked meat and fish. Sometimes we can get them from walking barefoot through contaminated soil or water, or breathing them in. It's that easy. Since we can't live our lives shrinking from every possible danger, the best defense against long-term parasitic invasion is regular colon cleansing. Colon cleanses are also terrific for ridding the bowel of toxins and foul compacted material.
