For those who particularly like to have full control over their health, home enemas are a great alternative to lots of clinical treatments. Taking an enema at home will be less expensive and will allow the individual to further enhance a health program by taking regular enemas whenever an opportunity presents itself. For some of us, this issue of being in control means that lots of alternative health treatments are great, because they can be carried out at home.

Important Rules for Home Enemas

There are some very important safety issues that anyone giving themselves, or loved ones, home enemas should know. First, it's very important that everyone have their own enema kit, or at the very least, tube and speculum. It is also very important that you never force an enema speculum. You are dealing with some very delicate tissue around the anus and it is important that you treat it gently. Using a large speculum, or nozzle, is better than a small one as it is less likely to damage tissue.

Never use plain tap water for home enemas. The chlorine and other chemicals are not helpful to the body. In fact, chlorine can be a disaster and it is also absorbed through the colon. Use filtered water or mineral water. You can use distilled water, because this actually absorbs toxins. Used excessively though, it can deplete the body further of important minerals.

As with any enema or colon cleanse, it is important not to rush home enemas. If you don't have enough time to spare, then it's probably best to leave it for some other time. By using warm, not hot, water and adding the water slowly, most of us can take between one and three quarts of water. Slowly and surely is best, because the more water you can use, the more beneficial home enemas can be.
