What Do I Do About Receeding Gums?

Receeding gums is a sure sign of periodontal disease or gum disease. If you have noticed that your gums are both irritated and red and have begun to pull away from your tooth enamel, certain measures should be taken immediately. If you haven't seen your dentist recently, you should also consider making an appointment as soon as possible.

Receeding gums is a direct effect of poor dental hygiene. Without adequate brushing techniques you are leaving behind layers of plaque and bacteria on your mouth. This bacteria if not destroyed through effective dental hygiene begins to irritate your gum line.

Effects of Gum Disease

You may experience bleeding gums, halitosis (bad breath), and lost teeth as a result of gum disease. You can effectively prevent these things from happening by incorporating the following elements into your daily routine: brushing, flossing and rinsing.

First, invest in an electric toothbrush. This will help eliminate any existing plaque and bacteria. Purchasing a water pick in lieu of flossing with dental floss will improve the irrigation around your gum line by eliminating the germs and bacteria that tend to build up. Anti-septic rinses will guarantee that any left over bacteria is killed on the spot.
