Anxiety Management

Anxiety management is often achieved through medicinal and therapeutic means. Medications can be useful in decreasing the immediate debilitating effects of anxiety and depression. This allows the individual to maintain a clear perspective of his situation as he undergoes therapy designed to manage the emotional, psychological, and social ramifications of his affliction. In addition to conventional pharmaceutical medications, many people suffering from anxiety and depression have also been turning to herbal and holistic remedies for anxiety, stress, and phobias.

Medications such as Xanax, Valium, Prozac, Paxil, Nardil and Lorazepam are among the most commonly prescribed antidepressants for countering anxiety and stress. Most of these antidepressants are serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SRIs), which regulate the brain chemicals associated with the symptoms of anxiety and depression. These medications are quite effective in some cases, but not so in others. This is due to the highly variable nature of anxiety depression from one patient to the next. While the physical, neurological factors at work in anxiety may share many similarities from person to person, the emotional, psychological, and social components account for the high variability.

Natural Methods of Anxiety Management

The medication side effects experienced by some patients, along with the ever-increasing cost of prescription drugs, has lead many people to seek solutions outside of conventional pharmacology. Herbal supplements and other holistic anxiety treatments have increased greatly in popularity in recent years. Herbal supplements such as Clarocet, Melotonin, and St. John's Wort have been praised by many people as effective treatments for anxiety, stress, and depression. In contrast, another recent herbal remedy, Colloidal Silver, has been lambasted for its inability to deliver on its claims that it an effective treatment for numerous afflictions, including anxiety and other mood disorders.

Apart from cognitive and behavioral therapy, which help the anxiety-stricken individual make changes in their life and thought process that can reduce anxiety symptoms, holistic therapeutic remedies have also been attracting attention in recent years. These treatments include things such as yoga, meditation, relaxation techniques, music therapy, and subliminal repetition. Although the medical validity of these techniques can not be vouched for as of yet, many people claim that their anxiety was significantly alleviated through one or more of these techniques.
