Detoxification Diets

The popularity of detoxification diets is on the rise due to the enormous amount of chemicals and pollutants that are in the air and the food that is consumed. The body has a natural way of purging out the toxins by the action of the liver and the kidneys. Detoxification becomes necessary when the body's natural system becomes overloaded. Dietary change is often needed to include foods that are low in fat, high in fiber, and vegetarian in nature to assist the body in its normal function. Avoid processed foods, caffeine, and alcohol.

Guidelines for Detoxification Diets

The detox diet typically recommends avoiding foods such as meat and fish and eating more raw vegetables, fruit, and water. It is beneficial to have a food allergy test to determine if the body is especially sensitive to any particular food product. A non-invasive way would be just to eliminate foods systematically and see if symptoms disappear and then reappear when eating the food is resumed.

You should ingest foods that contain live enzymes and nutrients. Because of a common diet of acid-forming foods and the everyday stress, most people have a body that is more acid than alkaline. There needs to be a balance because it is difficult to remain healthy with an acidic body. Avoiding foods that contribute to the acid side and adding foods that contribute to the alkaline side help to bring the acid/alkaline balance of the body back to midline.

Water Is Important

Water is a primary part of detoxification diets. It helps by diluting and eliminating toxins as they accumulate in the body. It is probably the one most important action you can take to detox the body. It helps also by moisturizing the skin and improves sweating with exercise. Filtered water is suggested.
