As one of the latest fitness technology breakthroughs, elliptical equipment has become prevalent and popular at health clubs. These workout machines enable people to select various exercising options, such as the level of difficulty, speed, and length of the workout. When shopping for elliptical equipment, the most important features people should consider are how users select levels of resistance and foot room, and the length of strides that the machine allows.

Elliptical Equipment Options

Nearly all machines allow people to adjust resistance. The most basic elliptical machines let people adjust the levels manually. Manual adjustment means that users physically alter their machines before starting their workouts. They either turn knobs or slide bars forwards and backwards, making the pedals more difficult or easier to move.

For a little more money, people can purchase elliptical equipment that has motorized resistance. This option is preferable to manual resistance. With motorized resistance, someone can adjust the degree of difficulty simply by pressing buttons. This can be done while exercising. Say, for example, someone has chosen to exercise for 30 minutes, and after 20 minutes he realizes that he needs a higher level of resistance in order to get the degree of workout he desires. Without stopping, this person can make his workout harder for the remaining 10 minutes.

For optimal workouts, people should use elliptical machines that allow people to take strides that are at least 20 inches long. Longer strides work all the muscles in the legs. Moreover, ample foot room on pedals makes workouts more comfortable and safer.
