Indoor Group Cycling

People who enjoy indoor group cycling classes do so for a variety of reasons. The first, and most obvious, is the fact that they are indoors, away from inclement weather conditions and the dangers of traffic patterns. They are also quite popular because they offer professional instruction by fitness experts who take their groups through challenging and calorie-burning cycling programs. Those who are motivated by working out with others will benefit greatly by the fact that these classes are group-orientated.

It is a good idea to come to one of these indoor group cycling classes fully equipped and prepared. Allow at least five minutes before the start time to set up the bike to meet your individual measurements and to begin a low-resistance warm up period. Bring plenty of water and a towel to wipe of excess perspiration. If your hands sweat during a workout, you can also wear padded gloves to keep them from slipping of the handlebars and to prevent blisters from forming.

Most gyms will equip the group with a line of professional-grade cycling (or "spinning") bikes for you to choose from. Oftentimes, these bikes are available to purchase for home fitness use through the same manufacturer. Ask a gym supervisor on how to contact the maker of your favorite cycling machine, or go online to discover how to buy one for yourself.

Dangers Associated with Indoor Group Cycling

Before starting an indoor cycling program, be sure to talk to your doctor or health advisor. It is an incredibly intense test of endurance for the heart and lungs to go through 45 minutes to an hour of non-stop pedaling. Those who experience shortness of breath, dehydration, heart palpitations or other types of long-term fitness problems may put themselves at risk when they join a spinning class.
