Spinning is a personal favorite exercise that I highly recommend for people of all fitness levels. It doesn't matter if you are exercising for the first time or are an Olympic biker--you will be challenged. The fitness instructor makes spinning fun by playing uplifting music that matches the beat of the peddling. As the beat goes speeds up, so do the calories that your burning.

What is Spinning?
Spinning is much like riding a regular street bicycle except the bike is designed with a weighted front flywheel that keeps you stationary. An average spinning class consists of approximately twenty to thirty upright bikes. Due to the fact they are upright, you have the ability to sit and stand which targets muscles that wouldn't necessarily be used on another type of bike.

Spinning is a great form of exercise to slim the size of your legs and strengthen your heart. It also strengthens muscles such as your glutes, quads, hamstrings and calves. Even if you are new to fitness, you will never feel like you are lagging behind in a spinning class.

The average spinning class lasts approximately one hour. Your instructor will take you on an imaginary journey up mountains, through jungles and around trees and shrubs. If at any time, you feel the intensity of your journey is too much, you can use the adjustable resistance knob on your bike. Typically, you will increase the resistance when you are standing up to give your leg and glute muscles a hard workout. The resistance is decreased when you sit down and peddle at a much faster pace to keep your heart rate up.

Spinning Class
Spinning is sometimes offered as a specialty class or as part of your standard gym membership. A typical cardiovascular day for most gym members is running on the treadmill and using the elliptical machine. These are both excellent forms of exercise, but eventually your body will get used to doing the same routine. Spinning class is an excellent way of adding something new and exciting to your fitness program.

Spinning at Home
There is good news for those of you who don't like gym environments. You can purchase your own spinning bike exactly like those found in spinning classes for a very reasonable price. Also, you can find excellent spinning VHS and DVD videos on the market. Having your own spinning bike is a nice perk since you can exercise at your own pace and in the comfort of your own home.

If you are interested in home exercise bikes that are designed toward spinning, you have many to choose from. Be sure, however, that the bike you choose is specifically geared toward spinning. This bike will not have all of the fancy gadgets and colorful light up screens of a traditional stationary bike.

Taking a spinning class or doing any other type of aerobic activity is excellent for your health. You will find that you will be able to manage stress better and feel much better about yourself. It is important for people of all ages to take care of themselves and to have fun every step of the way.
