Cutting Edge Wavefront Technology

In the not-too-distant past measuring the exact refractive ability of a person's eye was a complicated and inaccurate business. But a new technique called Wavefront technology has meant that now an ophthalmologist can quickly get a complete appraisal of the total refractive errors of the eye. This includes nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and a range of refractive errors that cannot be corrected with eye glasses.

Wavefront technology diagnostics techniques are the perfect partner for LASIK eye surgery. Used as part of the preliminary appraisal for patients wanting LASIK surgery, Wavefront technology can screen out those patients for whom LASIK will be inappropriate. When used in conjunction with LASIK surgery Wavefront technology can mean that near perfect vision is the result.

Insist on the Real Thing

However, it's important to note that some laser eye surgery centers imply that they are using the Wavefront technology when in actually front they are using Wavefront directed technology. This does not give anywhere near the accuracy of full custom Wavefront technology. Be sure you have an accurate idea of which sort of Wavefront is being used by your LASIK surgeon!

Wavefront technology was actually developed to help people who have unusually shaped eyes. In the past these people were particularly difficult to help, and they generally did not get good results from LASIK. Wavefront technology is still comparatively new, so it's too early to say for sure, but it is this category of eyesight problems that is expected to get the most benefit from Wavefront technology.
