If you have ever experienced those little white flakes taunting you from your shoulder and begging for attention while sitting on dark clothes, you probably want to know about dandruff remedies. Well, the good news is that there are hundreds of remedies out there. Some of them are wonderful. The bad news is that your dandruff can always return, so keep your remedy close by.

Dandruff Remedies to Be Done at Home

There are many things thought to be the cause of dandruff, so you will have to experiment with dandruff remedies. If you are taking very hot showers, you could be stripping your hair of essential oils. Try lukewarm showers and finish with a quick cool blast to help close your pores and keep oils in. Also, blow-drying your hair close to the scalp could be causing your flakes.

Lots of eating habits can contribute to dandruff. A diet high in sugar can certainly be a cause. Try reducing your sugar intake. In addition, those of you on low or no-fat diets are denying your hair (and your body) essential fatty acids such as Omega-3 and Omega-6. If you refuse to put some good fat back into your diet, you can take supplement pills. In addition, dandruff is thought to be caused by yeast. You can fend off this possibility by cutting back on foods that contain yeast such as breads, cheese, wine and alcohol.

Many people choose to use shampoos as their dandruff remedies. Whenever a little case pops up on me, this is what I do. When looking for shampoos, check for ingredients such as ZPT (zinc pyrithione) or selenium sulfide. Coal-tar shampoos and ones that contain salicylic acid have also proven useful. With stronger shampoos, don't use them everyday.
