Baby Boomers

Baby boomers first began to emerge in 1946 kicking, screaming and challenging authority. Between 1946 and 1964 the birth rate, compared to 1940, nearly doubled. Because of their sheer numbers, baby boomers have had enormous impact on society and the economy during every stage of their collective lives.

Entire college courses are taught, and sociological PhDs earned, on the study of the societal, economic and historical impact of these post-war children. Talkin' 'bout my generation, indeed. Every stage of life they enter becomes newly defined, whether it be teenaged angst, college age political protest, or the "greed is good" mid-life business focus. As they begin to enter their own "golden years," they continue to buck, now with big bucks, all preconceived age-related notions.

Do Not Go Gently Into That Good Night

The healthcare industry is, to coin a phrase, "baby booming." Unlike previous generations, baby boomers don't appear to demonstrate a quiet acceptance that because they're older, they're less healthy or vital. Sales of nutritional supplements, especially those with an emphasis on vigor, energy, mental acuity and overall superior health, are at record setting levels. Some experts even project that the future of the Wellness movement could surpass the dot-com revolution.

Specifically targeted nutritional supplements, as well as less holistically based plastic, cosmetic, and hair transplant surgeries, are all increasingly popular among the generation that once urged each other to not "trust anyone over 30." Studies show that baby boomers display a previously unseen optimism about older life, with over half claiming that they plan to make it beyond age 80 without serious limitation on their activities. In order to meet these challenges head-on, an enormous percentage of the population seems prepared to spend previously unheard of amounts of money on wellness care, and other therapies designed to promote health, and youthful vigor.
