Low fat low carb diets are in vogue right now, and it seems like every famous person in Hollywood follows this type of eating plan. The Atkins Diet and the Zone Diet, are both low carb diets popular among today's young celebrities, including Jennifer Aniston and Madonna. It seems like you cannot even turn on the television without being bombarded by advertisements for low carb foods or diet plans that promise to melt the pounds right off your body.

Is there really any merit to such claims? Well, if truth be told, you can lose weight on the low fat low carb diets, but it can be difficult to sustain that weight loss. It can be quite challenging to give up many of the nutritious foods that you love just because they contain carbohydrates. This is why many people don't last long on these low carb diet plans; they simply can't forgo fruit, pasta, and bread indefinitely.

The Truth about Low Fat Low Carb Diets

It is important to understand that low fat low carb diets often deprive you of foods that are high in essential vitamins and minerals, as well as fiber and antioxidants. If you cut down on or remove carbs from your diet, you will have to omit fresh fruits and veggies, legumes, pasta, breads, whole grains, and cereals. This can be a huge hurdle to overcome if you love eating such foods, because the low carb diets virtually eliminate all but some fruits and veggies from the diet.

If you have a great deal of weight to lose, it's best to consult with your doctor before beginning any diet plan. In addition, you will have to get active if you really want to become fit and healthy. Only your doctor can give you the sound medical advice you need before beginning any diet and exercise plans safely.
