Jobst Compression Stockings for Lymphedema Treatment

Jobst compression stockings have been used for years for the treatment of lymphedema. Jobst is a brand name of medical compression garments that are designed to reduce swelling and pain of affected extremities. These garments are often worn by people who suffer from lymphedema, venous diseases such as Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI), or from those who just suffer from tired, achey legs from standing or sitting too long on the job.

Fortunately, if you do suffer from lymphedema or one of these other circulatory diseases, jobst compression stockings come in a variety of colors and styles for both men and women. Women are especially delighted when they realize that jobst stockings look just like other pantyhose that they would normally wear with skirts and dresses. So no one else has to know that you are wearing compression stockings but you!

Benefits of Compression Garments

The whole purpose of compression garments is to increase blood flow and reduce swelling. When lymph becomes stagnant, it pools in one area, and swelling and pain result. Compression bandages and garments put enough pressure on the lymph nodes to stimulate the flow of lymph through the body.

When lymph is free-flowing, swelling goes down and the limb can return to normal or near-normal size. Your doctor or therapist will be able to help you determine which jobst compression garment is best for you. He or she will also go over proper care of your garment to ensure that it lasts as long as it should.
