Lightweight wheelchairs may feel and look fragile, but they are built to be incredibly durable and will generally last many years. High-strength, aircraft-grade aluminum frames make for a lighter weight than other folding wheelchairs. These wheelchairs are excellent for use among people without a lot of upper body strength who find it hard to maneuver heavier-framed wheelchairs.

Some great features on lightweight wheelchairs include flip-back arms that make it easier to get in and out of the chair. Adjustable dual rear wheel axle settings, as well as dual front wheel caster positions, make seat-to-floor height positioning a breeze. Look for wheelchairs that have breathable nylon upholstery that can endure years of wear and tear without ripping.

Lightweight Wheelchairs' Features

The latest technology incorporates the use of the best materials when manufacturing lightweight wheelchairs. The result is that these wheelchairs are much less cumbersome and can be navigated even narrower spaces and around corners with relative ease, as compared to their heavier counterparts. Look for chairs that are made out of high-strength aluminum that will last for many years.

Wheelchairs should be as comfortable as possible for the user, so it is important that the seat cushion is made out of breathable materials that won't cause excessive sweating. In addition, padded arm-rests should be able to be flipped back for ease in getting in or out of the wheelchair. Finally, the rear wheels should have easily accessible brakes that are not difficult to apply.
