However, last New Year's resolutions fall apart after a few weeks, and those bottles of beer with friends really do seem harmless enough. Perhaps you'll start next month on a clean slate, or minimize your daily routine to only one drink a day...or perhaps two...or three. If the above thought process seems familiar to you, then you must realize that alcoholism effects not only your physical behavior, but also your reasoning. The process to quit drinking requires an almost Herculean effort to rid yourself of the psychological patterns of excusing your behavior and refusing to change certain lifestyle activities that usually lead to drinking. It can be a painful process, one which can cause a lot of strife and conflict. What Have You Really Got to Lose to Quit Drinking?If you really want to put your reason to the test, a quick analysis of your life and the associations it has to alcohol can easily check if you truly need help with alcohol addiction. For a week, write down every alcoholic beverage you imbibe, from lunch meetings in the afternoon to parties at night, and even that small glass of wine taken during dinner. Write down the reasons for taking each drink, whether they be for relaxation, habit or tradition, peer pressure, taste, or a treat for yourself. If any of these reasons occurs habitually every day, then you can honestly tell yourself that you may have a drinking problem. A small adjustment to your attitude may be all that it takes to change your relationship to alcoholism and alcohol use. However, if there is a deeper-seated psychological problem, you may need professional help for you to loose the constant and dangerous behavior that you could be having. After using a professional alcohol treatment program, you will throw out your old ways of life and quit drinking for the better, and for good.
