Sinus infection remedies are different from sinus infection cures. The goal of cures is to eradicate the bacteria and restore the nasal and sinus pathways back to normal. Remedies are both comfort measures and the effort to prevent the onset of sinusitis in the first place. Inhaling warm steam in a shower or from a vaporizer soothes the inflamed mucus membranes.

Another of the many sinus infection remedies is placing a warm, wet compress over the inflamed area. A heating pad could also be used if it is more convenient. Saline nasal spray or irrigation is a great way to cleanse the air pathway of thickened mucus and to replace natural moisture in the membranes lining the nose.

Which Sinus Infection Remedies Work?

Preventive sinus infection remedies are very important. The use of a humidifier during the months a heater is needed will keep the sinuses from drying and becoming irritated. You must remember, however, to clean the humidifier frequently to prevent mold from growing. If you are prone to sinus infections, it is wise to keep your head above water when you swim. If you smoke, the best thing you can do for your sinus health is to quit smoking.

If you develop a case of sinusitis, it is important that you get plenty of rest and drink a lot of liquids. Sipping hot liquids is especially comforting to the throat when it has been parched by the sinus drainage. Be careful about self-medicating. If you indeed have a sinus infection, antibiotics will be required to clear up the infection. Cleansing and comfort measures will speed up the healing process.
