Sometimes it's difficult to realize how closely connected we are to the things we eat and how much we work. We spend so much time running around tending to our demanding lives that we take very little time to investigate the consequences, good or bad, of how we treat our bodies.

Holistic Sensibilities

The principle of holistic medicine is to balance the whole, all parts of the body. With holistic health, there is no separation between our social, economic, psychological and physical factors. All these things are interconnected and there's no way to cure one without considering the others.

This means staying mentally, physically and spiritually active. Taking on a healthy diet is a good way to start improving your health, but for enhancement of the whole, you've got to take it further. In addition to a healthy diet, try to exercise a little every day. Start with 15 minutes and keep adding 5 minutes every week or so. Soon you'll have a whole routine and you'll wonder how you lived without it.

In addition to eating well and exercising, taking time for mental excursions can help you keep healthy. Studies show that keeping an active mind helps to ward off disease, like Alzheimer's. It's hard for Americans today to take the time needed for themselves. It can be hard to do at first. It may feel selfish and like a waste of time, but something as simple as completing a crossword puzzle or reading a novel a few pages at a time can greatly decrease your stress level and increase your mental activity. With your sights set on a healthy mind body and soul, you can be on your way to a healthier you.
