Serotain

Depression touches so many of us. Even if someone doesn't suffer the effects of depression personally, they more than likely are coping with the effects of depression on a friend or family member. Therapy and antidepressant medicines seem to be the most effective methods of dealing with depression.

Antidepressants can be frightening at times, though. Recently there has been a big scare surrounding prescription antidepressants and suicide attempts. The Food and Drug Administration issued a warning in March 2004, stating that depression sometimes worsens and patients may be at higher risk of attempting suicide when taking antidepressants.

This has lead to a marked decline in the use of prescription antidepressants and has many people looking for a safe and natural alternative. Serotain has been found to be a natural antidepressant and mood elevator. Serotain contains 5-HTP, which is an extract of a West African plant called Griffonia simplicifolia. 5-HTP supplies the brain with materials to make more serotonin, which is what elevates our moods. Serotonin uptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, like Zoloft, influence serotonin in a different way. They interfere with the brain by blocking serotonin inactivation. This indirectly increases serotonin levels but causes cellular deficiency.

Other Benefits of Serotain

In addition to being an antidepressant, Serotain has been found to be a natural appetite suppressant. Serotain has helped some patients achieve significant weight loss while feeling like their appetites were satisfied. Serotain also works as a natural sleep aid because it increases production on serotonin and melatonin, which is the body's primary sleep hormone.
