If you're running a business from home specializing in supplement distribution, you probably already know a little about capsule shells. If you're just starting out, there are several things to keep in mind when ordering capsule shells from the manufacturer for use in your own business.

The Basics of Capsule Shells

The first thing to understand is that capsules come in many different sizes. The shells have different lengths and diameters resulting in different volumes for different doses. The larger capsule shells, around size 000, hold about a quarter of a teaspoon worth of supplement. The smallest capsule shell, like a size 4, only holds about one twenty fifth of a teaspoon of supplement.

It's also important to take into consideration what the shells of your capsules are made of. Traditional capsules have gelatin shells, while vegetarian capsules are made of other, non-animal derived substances. Make sure your customers know that unless they specify what type of shell they require, they'll most likely receive gelatin shells.

As a general rule, medicines and supplements are not known for their great taste. In order to promote healthy living and regular supplement taking, capsule manufacturers produce flavored shells for their customers. As a distributor, you can order mint or a variety of fruit flavored shells for your customers. Strawberry, orange, and grape are the most common fruit flavors.
