Discount LipitorWritten by Amy Hall Discount Lipitor is a commonly prescribed medication used to lower the amount of cholesterol in the blood. Patients taking Lipitor should also follow a healthy diet and regular exercise regime for the best results. Cholesterol is found in the foods we eat but it can also be produced by the body. Some people are genetically prone to having high cholesterol that does not respond to diet and exercise alone. If you have tried eating a low fat, low cholesterol diet that is high in fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins, and you exercise regularly but still suffer from high cholesterol, Lipitor may help. When cholesterol and fatty substances in the blood accumulate in the arteries, blood flow is hindered. Over time, arteries can become totally blocked and the result can be heart attack or stroke. Lipitor should not be taken if you are pregnant as it is known to cause birth defects in growing fetuses. You should not take Lipitor if you are breastfeeding without first consulting your doctor, as it is not known if this medication passes through breast milk. Lipitor is taken by mouth in tablet form once a day with or without food. It is best to try and take Lipitor around the same time each day for best results. Lipitor Side EffectsFortunately, the side effects associated with Lipitor are not very common. However, side effects can occur so you should know what to look for while taking this medication. Gas, stomach pain, cramps, diarrhea, constipation, upset stomach, heartburn, or headache are the most common side effects associated with Lipitor. Call your doctor immediately if you have muscle pain or tenderness, muscle cramps, or weakness with or without fever. You should not drink alcohol while taking Lipitor because damage to the liver is more likely.
