Lortab pain medication is prescribed for moderate to severe pain. Lortab is in a class of drugs called narcotic analgesics, which can only be prescribed by medical doctors. It is possible to become dependent on Lortab, so it is important to have medical supervision while taking this pain medication.

Before taking Lortab pain medication, you must tell your doctor if you have a history of alcohol or drug abuse, kidney or liver disease, asthma, seizures or epilepsy, an enlarged prostate, and/or urinary retention. You may not be able to take Lortab if you have any of these conditions, and a suitable replacement medication will have to be used instead. If you are pregnant or nursing, your doctor may not allow you to take Lortab for pain, as the chances of harm to the fetus or infant are not known.

Facts about Lortab Pain Medication

It is important that you refrain from drinking alcohol while taking Lortab pain medication, as alcohol can increase drowsiness and dizziness caused by this medication. This can possibly result in unconsciousness and/or death. In addition, the acetaminophen in Lortab can cause liver damage if taken with alcohol. Lortab can cause dangerous sedation if taken with muscle relaxants, antihistamines, prescription anxiety medications, and/or seizure medications.

If you try to order Lortab through an online pharmacy, you will have to show proof of a doctor's prescription. Don't even try ordering this type of pain medication without a doctor's prescription, as your order will not be filled. Any type of narcotic must have a doctor's written authorization prior to the request for a refill.
