If you suffer from muscle spasms, or you have sustained some type of injury, you may have been prescribed muscle relaxant drugs. Drugs such as Flexeril, Baclofen, and Soma are used to treat the symptoms associated with muscle pain. If you have hurt your hamstring muscle in your leg while you were training for a marathon, your doctor may prescribe a muscle relaxant to help ease the pain.

Muscle relaxant drugs are usually by prescription only, but there are some over-the-counter remedies that may help. You can buy prescription medications, such as muscle relaxants, through an online pharmacy at discounted prices. Some athletes take Advil for pain because the ibuprofen in it helps with inflammation as well as pain. Other people try topical creams like IcyHot that absorb into the skin to provide tingling muscle pain relief.

If you have a serious acute injury, however, more than likely you will need something stronger than an over-the-counter remedy. Prescription muscle relaxant drugs are usually only used for a short amount of time. Patients are often advised to get plenty of rest, as well as get physical therapy for pain related to injuries.

When taking muscle relaxants, it is not wise to drink alcohol because you may experience some adverse side effects. Persons who drink alcohol while taking muscle relaxants may find it difficult to walk, hold a conversation, or stay awake. Therefore, if you do drink an alcoholic beverage while taking such medication, you absolutely should not get behind the wheel of a car, as your reflexes will be slower than usual.
