Veterinary Prescriptions

Just like people, your pets sometimes need medication. While most people have insurance that helps cover the cost of medication, however, pet owners are usually responsible for the full cost of medications. One way to save costs is to find online pharmacies that can fill veterinary prescriptions.

If you live in an area that does not have a veterinarian in the local vicinity, it can be difficult to fill your pet's recurring prescriptions. You might have to drive hours to get to the veterinarian to fill prescriptions for a chronic condition that your pet has. While this can be quite an inconvenience, you can use an online pharmacy to send your pet's medication right to your home. You can simply fax them your veterinary prescription and the medication will be mailed to you as soon as the order is processed. You should be able to get several refills on the prescription, since there's much less fear of abuse of pet medication than there is of human.

Getting Your Pet to Take His or Her Medicine

Veterinarians and pharmacists have recently begun to explore different methods of delivering medication to pets. Getting children to take medicine in pill form can often be a difficult task. The same can be true of pets, as some may be unwilling to eat something that looks foreign to them and can scratch and bite you something fierce when you try to force them.

Transdermal gels are being used to deliver some medications to pets. These gels are applied topically, often on the skin inside your pet's ear. While not all medications can be applied in this way, it is a much more convenient mechanism for providing medicine to your pets when it can be used. Pet owners, however, need to be careful when using transdermal gels. Both pharmacists and veterinarians will inquire about your health if they are writing you a prescription for a transdermal gel, as you will also be handling it.
