Building Self-esteem

Building self-esteem is a process that's critical for success in everything from relationships to business. If you suffer from a low self-opinion, you may end up in unhealthy or even abusive relationships, turn to drugs or alcohol, or even sabotage your own career. Naturally, people with low self-esteem don't actually set out to do these things. It's merely consequences of their feelings.

The good news is that, like any other type of attitude, your attitude about yourself can change. But because self-esteem comes from within (hence the "self" designation), if you don't possess the tools to see your own worth, the process of coming to love yourself can be a challenging one. That's where life coaching can come into play.

Building Self-Esteem with Your Personal Coach

A life coach will be able to give you those critical tools that teach you a healthy self-love, which is not to be confused with arrogance or self-centeredness. Self-love means realizing that you have contributions to make, be they humorous, artistic, intellectual, physical, or spiritual. But for a variety of reasons, many parents and teachers don't instill that sense of self-love in their children and students--an oversight (or inability) that can have ruinous consequences.

Like all areas of self-improvement, building self-esteem takes time. If you've spent your whole life kicking yourself around, you can't expect to fully come to a place of acceptance in a matter of days or even weeks. It can sometimes take years to learn to even like yourself, let alone love yourself. But you can accelerate that pace with the help of a good coach.
