We are so lucky today that there are many wonderful resources we can use for self improvement. Nowadays there is a positive emphasis on every aspect of self improvement, and all are encouraged to pursue the highest level of self fulfillment. However, more and more of us are realizing that without inner self fulfillment, there can be no physical manifestation of a better you.

Self improvement is a relatively new concept--well on a large scale anyway. In times gone by it was restricted to exceptionally high achievers or those who had lived in Asia, but now we can all benefit from knowledge that is easily available. You and I can now learn what it takes to empower ourselves to bring all the aspects of our "self" into synchronization so that we can experience true happiness, contentment, health and personal success.

Why Do We Seek Self Improvement?

The realization that stress and tension are largely responsible for limitations to our personal power have generally formed the foundation to the movement towards universal "enlightenment" and self improvement. We are all encouraged to realize that in order to reach higher attainments in the areas of health and success, we need to be at peace with our world. Possibly the most powerful tool of all for achieving inner peace and dispelling stress is meditation.

Of course there is no one single right way to meditate. There are many different methods practiced and taught throughout the world. The right one for you will be whatever works for you quickly and easily.

Although it sounds very easy, meditation for self improvement and inner peace is actually very difficult for many of us to achieve. We may think we "thrive" on stress, and we may find it very difficult to let go completely. For many of us this works for a while. Stress can be very exhilarating if it is connected to an exciting job and a high powered lifestyle.

The Dangers of Imbalance

But sooner or later our physical bodies tend to give out under all this constant stimulation. Our health will begin to deteriorate, and we'll find that our mental powers and energy are flagging. It begins to be an effort to do anything and the success we were enjoying begins to slip into the background. Until we realize what is happening and do something about it.

Our lives are a cycle of balances. If we have stimulation we must also have stillness. Ignoring the rules of nature will create imbalance and is a recipe for disaster and it is for this reason that so many people are seeking the path to internal stillness, so that they can learn to regenerate and reap the rewards for self improvement.

There are many ways you can work on your personal abilities and qualities for all around self improvement, but you should start with a good, stable foundation of peace before you move on. Even if you find it difficult at first, learning to meditate so that you can channel and harness your personal power is important. Again, there is no right and wrong way to do any of this. If you find a technique that works, then use it. If at first you don't succeed, keep looking because the system that will work for you is out there somewhere.
