Impotence

Millions of men around the world suffer from impotence. Some men experience it only once in a while, while for others it is an ongoing, persistent problem. Often, men are too embarrassed to talk about it with their doctors. If you are experiencing erectile dysfunction, even only once in a while, it is crucial that you visit your doctor so he or she can help you find the cause.

Impotence Has Many Causes

Causes of impotence can be either physical or psychological in nature. Medical causes include heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, prostrate problems, alcoholism, smoking, and more. In fact, heart disease is the most common medical cause of erectile dysfunction, so much so that ED is often one of the first signs of heart disease.

Psychological causes of impotence include stress, anxiety, depression, boredom, and more. Sometimes very simple behavioral modification can cure the problem, while other times counseling can help. When the cause is boredom, often all that is needed is a little extra spice in the bedroom.

While your doctor may prescribe medication that can help, there are also some natural remedies out there. Some herbal supplements have been shown to increase blood flow to the penis, allowing a man to get and maintain an erection long enough to have intercourse. Whatever treatment you decide upon, make sure it is one with which you are comfortable and always be sure to consult your doctor beforehand.
