Amino acids are often referred to as the building blocks of the body. In other words, they are responsible for building cells and repairing tissue, and they also carry oxygen throughout the body. Finally, amino acids are helpful in helping you get through intense physical workouts.

Glutamine is one of the most important amino acids, and it is produced naturally within the body. However, if there is a deficiency within the body, you may begin to notice that you feel sluggish and unable to work out as intensely as you have in the past. You may want to try taking a glutamine supplement to increase the level of this amino acid in your body, which should restore some of your lost energy.

Supplementing with Amino Acids

Some people who work out intensely with weights decide to supplement their diet with amino acids in the form of tablets or powders. The most commonly recommended form of such supplements are called Branched Chain Amino Acids, otherwise referred to as BCAA's. This combination helps the body repair itself after intense resistance training, as well as prevents the breakdown of lean muscle tissue.

In addition, this supplement helps fuel your workout by giving you a boost of energy. If you are embarking on a strength-training regime for the first time, you may want to ask your physician about taking such a supplement. It may be recommended that you start off with a nutritional supplement that is less intense, and move your way up should you need it.
